Almost exactly three years after the IC814 hijacking and the Kandahar hostage crisis, the Taliban are at it again. They have demanded the release of 50 Taliban prisoners in exchange for the two Indian engineers.
New Delhi and Kabul must not yield.
The international forces (ISAF) do not hold sway beyond Kabul, and most of the US forces are engaged in a hunt for the elusive Bin Laden. If these forces cannot be relied upon to protect Indian citizens and companies engaged in Afghanistan’s reconstructions, then India must make its own arrangements. Call in the special forces.
