The Indian army chief is against ceasing counterterrorist operations in Kashmir
It was a bold Sikh police officer who used an iron fist to put terrorism to rest in Punjab. Now, a bold Sikh army officer is planning to do the same in Jammu & Kashmir. His political bosses should not fail him.
The Army today assured all help to Kashmiri militants ready to shun the path of violence but warned of an “iron fist” to deal with foreign ultras operating in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Ninety-nine per cent of the population of Kashmir are innocent. The one per cent who have taken the arms will be extended all possible help if they shun the gun,” Chief of Army Staff General J J Singh told reporters here today.
“However, no leniency will be shown to foreign militants operating in the State. An iron fist is ready for them,” he said.
He dismissed media reports suggesting internal ceasefire in the State saying “there is no such proposal”. [Daily Excelsior]
