The Iranians know their game theory

Confession for freedom (denial for incarceration)

The Iranian interrogators knew their prisoner’s dilemma all right. With so many prisoners it would have been rather simple to get a confession.

Royal Marine Capt Chris Air said, “The next few nights were spent in stone cells, approximately 8ft by 6ft, sleeping on piles of blankets. All of us were kept in isolation. We were interrogated most nights, and presented with two options. If we admitted we had strayed, we would be on a plane back to the UK soon. If we didn’t, we faced up to seven years in prison.” [The Times of London]

  1. Toby Harnden’s coverage is very illuminating. Didn’t think of the British as surrender-monkeys – still don’t – but they’ve taken a PR beating with this one. Calling Ahmedinejad “sir” is quite much.
