Amend the anti-defection law and bring political parties under regulatory oversight
Here’s Sunday’s television programme where I argued that the anti-defection law has destroyed the incentives for MPs to debate on substantive issues, leading to parliamentary dysfunction.
See this article in Pragati by PRS Legislative Research’s M R Madhavan for an analysis of the anti-defection bill. Their issue brief goes into this in greater depth. I also call for an omnibus legislation to govern the functioning of political parties. ADR’s recommendations for electoral reforms go into this in greater detail.
No Law Can Help the politicians in having a fair debate rather than protesting and making it adjourned…!!!
